YOUR LIBRARY IS GOING TO GET EVEN BETTER

Earlier this year Whickham Volunteer Library applied through Gateshead Council for funding from the "Pride in Place" Programme, a government-backed scheme to help residents improve their neighbourhoods.

To our delight we were successful, and are using the funding to transform the main library to make it more adaptable for community use.

The overall aim is to produce a space that will be suitable for library use (as books are our main purpose) but also allow the building to be suitable for other community uses, e.g. meetings, library fairs, and entertainment.

The upgrades will be taking place in September, and so the library will close on Thursday 3rd September and reopen on Wednesday 30th September.
